Symposium - 2010
Background
In 2008, Great Lakes Division Director Jim Weaver asked the Findlay Radio Club if they would be interested in hosting the Great Lakes Division Convention. The Club discussed the idea, and decided that we would do the Convention, but it would be done differently than the prior Division Conventions. None of us were interested in a "standard" convention with speakers and a banquet. We wanted to to host a gathering where hams from around the division could get together and exchange information and ideas. We especially wanted to provide a forum where new hams could see what else there is in this hobby of our beside repeaters and handhelds on 2 meters. We wanted to keep it affordable so anyone could attend.
We held discussions with Division and Section management, and the Symposium is the result. This year the Symposium will be held in Findlay Ohio on Sept. 11 - the day before the Findlay Hamfest. It will be free, so as long as you can get to Findlay, cost should not be an issue. Attendees will have an opportunity to purchase a box lunch at the Symposium.
It is our hope that the symposium will draw both new and experienced hams. We have a great line-up of speakers talking about a wide range of subjects. Through the use of internet technology we will be having speakers from thousands of miles away. We hope you attend and find it useful!
