I have finished the first prototype of the Spectrum Analyzer (Photo shows a -30 dbm 20 MHz signal from an HP8640b). I will be taking orders for the kit at Dayton 2011. The kit will include PC boards and parts for the modules in the SA. (It will be up to the builder to supply the shielding, enclosure, connectors, knobs, hardware, +/- 15 volts. I may have an option for the die-cast boxes to shield the modules.) These include:
Changes from the original article include:
I still have to do one more round of prototyping (I want to be sure the board changes I made on the first prototype are OK!), and I have to figure the price of the kit. The second prototype boards will get here about the time I head for Dayton, so it will be after Dayton when I get it completed. The analyzer as it now stands covers 50 KHz to 70+ MHz. I can display signals from -90 dbm to 0 dbm with out having internally generated spurs show up on the display. This is of course dependant on how well the modules are shielded and constructed. |
