AA0ZZ developed the PIC-EL back in late 2004 with help from AmQRP Club members N2APB, N2CX, WB8RCR, N8ERO, and K8IQY. The PIC-EL was developed to be used with an on-line PIC course developed by WB8RCR. The original PIC-EL was only available for a few months. AA0ZZ has updated the board to replace some obsolete parts and correct a few deficiencies. The result is the PIC-EL II.
The PIC-EL II comes complete with a 16F628 that has a diagnostic program preloaded. The board has two parts – a PIC Programmer and a demonstration portion. The programmer uses a serial programmer (RS-232 connection – DB9F) that is available on the internet. The demonstration portion allows the experimenter to understand and use many of the functions available with a PIC. It includes:
