BIQR - the Binaural Receiver - $115 (pc board only $20 UVFO pc board is separate) I have not done any BIQR kits since the flood. There has been enough interest that I will be doing a run of them at some point in the future to satisfy demand. Let me know if you want one - it will help move it up the priority list! The article describing this unique receiver appears on page 44 of the March '99 issue of QST. The Binaural I‑Q Rx uses two mixers (TUF‑1's are supplied in the kit) fed with two local oscillator signals that are phase shifted 90 degrees one from the other. Two separate audio amplifier chains are used to drive the right and left sides of a pair of stereo earphones. Because of the relative phase of the audio coming from each of the earpieces the audio is perceived to be at a point in space. Different audio frequencies appear to be at different points in space. (Rick explains it much better than I do ‑ read the article!!). Very little audio filtering is provided in the circuit ‑ you do it all in your head based on the relative position of the signals you hear. The UVFO described elsewhere is included as part of the kit. |
